Configuring FreePPP
"PPP" stands for Point-to-Point Protocol, and it's a standard for allowing computers to access the Internet over dial-up lines (versus a direct connection, such as many larger businesses and universities now have). Waverider offers PPP dial-up accounts to make connecting more affordable and flexible for anyone who can't justify the expense of a dedicated high-speed network connection. To access Waverider from a Mac, you will need a PPP-compatible dialer such as FreePPP (the latest and greatest of a series of revisions to a freeware package orig inally called MacPPP). FreePPP consists of two pieces: an application called FreePPP Setup and an extension called PPP. To set up for dialing Waverider, all you need is to add some information to FreePPP Setup and you should be ready to dial in and surf away (assuming you've already set up Mac TCP or Open Transport, of course).
When you open the FreePPP Setup application Free-icon.gif (362 bytes)for the first time, it should show you a screen similar to this:
