Configuring MacPPP |
| "PPP" stands for
Point-to-Point Protocol, and it's a standard for allowing computers to access the Internet
over dial-up lines (vs. a direct connection, such as many larger businesses and
universities now have). Wave Rider offers PPP dial-up
accounts to make connecting more affordable and flexible for anyone who can't justify the
expense of a dedicated high-speed network connection. The software the Mac uses to connect
to a PPP account is usually referred to as a "dialer", since its primary
function is to coordinate the modem's connection with our server. Several free dialers are
available, at least two of which are variations on a package called MacPPP,
which consists of two pieces: a control panel called Config PPP
and a system extension called PPP. To set up
for using Wave Rider, all you need is to add some
information to Config PPP and you should be ready to
dial in and surf away. When you open the Config PPP control panel |
